The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) anticipates finalizing flood defense construction and rehabilitation efforts in Calumpit, Bulacan, between January and February of the coming year. Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that the 1.8-kilometer initiative is currently 75 percent finished, putting the project ahead of its initial March deadline. The agency implemented design modifications to bolster the integrity of the defenses, such as increasing the height of the structures and utilizing geotextile materials to stop water seepage. These upgrades are designed to rectify structural weaknesses identified in earlier flood control installations, which were deemed insufficient to manage local water levels effectively. The government is prioritizing these enhancements to mitigate the persistent flooding issues that frequently affect the municipality.
