The World Meteorological Organization reports that the El Nino phenomenon is intensifying and is expected to persist through February 2027, potentially causing significant shifts in global weather patterns. For the Greater Horn of Africa, the upcoming October to December rainy season is projected to be considerably wetter than usual. Several countries, including Somalia, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania, are forecast to experience above-average precipitation. Certain areas within these nations could receive over 400 millimeters of rain. These seasonal downpours are critically important for the region, often accounting for as much as 70% of its annual rainfall.
