Former Liberian Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has been released from pre-trial detention and placed under house arrest. A lawyer confirmed this development on Saturday. Ms. Howard-Taylor, 63, faces serious allegations, including drug trafficking and money laundering. She was formally charged with these offenses on August 19. Her initial detention began August 25. A court had denied her humanitarian release request. This arrest is part of a wider government initiative targeting drug trafficking networks in Liberia.
