State prosecutors in Turkey have filed an indictment against Lütfi Arıboğan, the former vice president of the Turkish Football Federation, seeking a prison term ranging from two to five years. The legal action stems from allegations that Arıboğan provided support to the Gülen movement, a group designated by the Turkish government as a terrorist organization. These accusations are linked to a significant match-fixing scandal that impacted the national football landscape in 2011. Although the indictment claims Arıboğan intentionally assisted the group, it explicitly notes that investigators failed to uncover any definitive proof of a formal organizational connection between the official and the movement. The Gülen network, founded by the late cleric Fethullah Gülen, was formerly a political ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before their relationship collapsed.
