The Gujarat High Court initially overturned a government-imposed restriction on meat sales in the vicinity of the Somnath temple in Veraval. The ban, which prohibited the storage, preparation, and distribution of non-vegetarian food within 500 meters of the site and along access roads, had been challenged by six local restaurants. Although a single-judge bench initially ruled in favor of the petitioners on Friday afternoon, the court reversed its decision just four hours later. The state government had requested a stay on the initial order to allow time for an appeal before a division bench, arguing that the conditions surrounding the August 10 notification remained unchanged. While the judge initially denied the request to suspend the ruling, the subsequent reversal effectively restored the ban on meat-related activities in the specified area.
