A Gujarat-based organization named Justice on Trial has officially withdrawn its defamation lawsuit against the BBC in the Delhi High Court. The legal action was initiated following the broadcast of the documentary 'India: The Modi Question' in early 2023, which the NGO claimed harmed the reputation of the Indian Prime Minister and the judiciary. The group had originally requested damages of 10,000 rupees. During the recent hearing, the NGO's legal representative informed the court of the decision to drop the current case while reserving the right to file a new one regarding the same matter. The court subsequently dismissed the suit as withdrawn. The documentary, which examined the 2002 Gujarat riots, faced strong criticism from the Indian government, which labeled it as propaganda. Meanwhile, the BBC has consistently defended its editorial standards and the rigorous research conducted for the production.
