Hong Kong's Digital Policy Office has issued a directive to government departments and public organizations to conduct immediate security assessments following the identification of critical flaws in the PHP programming language. These vulnerabilities, which were detected through artificial intelligence, pose a potential threat to web infrastructure globally. Officials have instructed relevant agencies to verify their information systems for exposure and implement necessary patches promptly. If systems cannot be secured immediately, the office recommends isolating them or taking them offline to prevent unauthorized access. While the government has already applied fixes to its own website hosting services, no cyber security breaches have been reported in the region as of Friday. The office emphasized the importance of proactive maintenance to mitigate risks associated with these newly discovered technical weaknesses.
