The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong reported the capture of 109,087 live rats between January and September 2026. This figure represents a 20 percent rise compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. Additionally, officials recovered 20,650 deceased rodents throughout the city. Data indicates that Yau Tsim Mong district recorded the highest number of live captures, surpassing 16,000, while Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin, and Kowloon City also reported substantial numbers. Conversely, the Southern District and Sai Kung saw the lowest activity, with fewer than 1,500 live rats caught in each area. These efforts are part of an ongoing municipal campaign to mitigate the impact of rodent infestations across the territory's 18 districts.
