Following an investigation into the fatal 2025 blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, the Hong Kong government has unveiled plans to create a dedicated company to assist property owners with building maintenance and renovation projects. Chief Executive John Lee announced the formation of a building management support bureau, which will operate as a non-statutory entity. Financial Secretary Paul Chan confirmed that recruitment for the organization's leadership and staff is currently underway, with the goal of finalizing the company's registration by the end of the year. In addition to providing support services, the government intends to implement legislative measures to criminalize bid-rigging practices in renovation contracts. This initiative follows a formal apology from city officials regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragic fire, reflecting a broader effort to improve building safety and management standards across the territory.
