The Thai government has officially rescinded the citizenship of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor, the prominent leader of the Chabad network in Thailand. This decision, formalized by an order signed by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on October 28, stems from Kantor’s repeated use of his American passport for international travel. Specifically, authorities noted that he utilized his U.S. nationality for 16 trips to and from Australia, which violated the terms of his naturalization. Kantor, who has resided in Thailand since 1993, originally acquired Thai citizenship in 2013 under the Nationality Act of 1965. The revocation follows an investigation into his compliance with the conditions required for maintaining his naturalized status in the country.
