Wong Kwok-ngon, a 72-year-old political commentator also recognized by the pseudonym Wong On-yin, appeared at the District Court on Friday to face trial. Wong, who is currently representing himself, has been held in custody since his arrest in December 2025. He faces charges under the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, specifically for allegedly disclosing information regarding a national security probe. During the initial day of proceedings, the defendant asserted that law enforcement officers failed to provide him with any warnings concerning confidentiality during the investigation process. The charges stem from an incident in December 2025, occurring on the same day the commentator was scheduled to participate in a press conference. The trial is ongoing as the court examines the circumstances surrounding his alleged breach of the city's security legislation.
