Since the implementation of the Taxi-Driver-Offence Points system in September 2024, Hong Kong authorities have documented 229 violations by cab drivers. According to Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan, the majority of these infractions, totaling 125 cases, were related to drivers refusing service to passengers. The regulatory framework monitors 11 specific types of misconduct, including overcharging. To date, three drivers have faced a three-month suspension of their taxi-driving privileges after accumulating 15 or more demerit points. Furthermore, the Transport Department reported receiving nearly 6,000 complaints concerning taxi services during the same period. This data highlights ongoing efforts by the government to address service quality issues within the local taxi industry through stricter enforcement and accountability measures.
