A 61-year-old woman named Yang Chau-kei appeared before the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts this week to face charges related to the display of seditious materials. Prosecutors allege that between March and November 2024, the defendant placed various items on her apartment door, living room window, and the surrounding corridor of her Tin Shui Wai residence. The legal documents claim these actions were intended to incite hostility toward the Hong Kong government and the constitutional framework of the People's Republic of China. Following her court appearance, the defendant was remanded to a psychiatric facility. During the proceedings, Yang opted to represent herself, declining the assistance of a duty lawyer. The case remains ongoing as the judicial process continues to address the allegations of seditious intent.
