The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan has confirmed that there is no established timeline for shifting the Kazakh language to a Latin-based script. Elmira Asan, deputy chair of the Language Policy Committee, stated during a government briefing that experts are still in the process of refining the proposed alphabet and associated spelling regulations. She emphasized that implementing any version of the Latin script remains premature until the necessary legal frameworks and official documents are finalized and approved. While linguists introduced a revised draft of the alphabet in 2022, the government maintains that further development is required before a formal transition can proceed. Consequently, the ministry has advised against the premature adoption of unofficial Latin-based writing systems until the regulatory process is complete.
