Recent violent confrontations in Manipur have resulted in the deaths of five Kuki men over a 24-hour period. Three individuals were killed during a shootout between unidentified armed factions in the Noney district on Saturday. Subsequently, authorities discovered the bodies of two Kuki civilians who had been reported missing from Taphou Kuki village earlier in the week. These fatalities increase the total death toll from clashes between Naga and Kuki groups to 68 since February. The surge in violence coincides with public demonstrations in Imphal, where Meitei organizations and Naga civil society groups are calling for the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki-Zo armed factions. Protesters allege that these groups are responsible for escalating regional instability, leading to widespread demands for the termination of existing peace accords.
