Turkish authorities have detained two journalists as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2009 helicopter accident that resulted in the death of nationalist politician Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu. Emre Soncan, formerly a reporter for the defunct Zaman newspaper and an author of two books concerning the incident, was among 36 individuals recently incarcerated. Alongside journalist Mehmet Yaşar Durukan, Soncan faces allegations linked to the dissemination of video footage related to the crash. Pro-government media outlets have characterized the act of sharing this visual evidence with the press as a form of illicit involvement in the case. However, the official narrative provided in these reports fails to clarify how the public release of such materials could have interfered with the circumstances surrounding the fatal event. The legal proceedings against the journalists remain a point of contention as the broader investigation into the politician's death continues.
