The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Metro Manila has approved Wage Order No. 28, which proposes a 60-peso daily minimum wage hike. This proposal is currently awaiting final approval from the National Wages and Productivity Commission. If authorized, the increase would raise the daily minimum wage for non-agricultural workers in the region to 755 pesos, with implementation potentially starting in late September. This development follows ongoing legal challenges surrounding the previously announced 85-peso increase under Wage Order No. 27, which remains stalled by a court-issued injunction. Lawmakers and labor representatives have expressed concern that the new order could complicate existing legal disputes, with some critics characterizing the lower amount as an effective reduction in the previously promised wage adjustment. The Department of Labor and Employment maintains that the court must resolve the pending injunction regarding the earlier order.
