The Egyptian Football Association has announced that Mohamed Salah will be excluded from the squad traveling to South Sudan for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. Coach Hossam Hassan and his technical staff opted to rest the forward to avoid potential injuries associated with the artificial turf at Juba Stadium. This decision was finalized prior to Egypt's recent goalless draw against Angola. Salah, who recently transferred to Trabzonspor, remains one goal away from equaling Hassan’s national scoring record of 69 goals. Egypt, a seven-time tournament champion, is competing in Group B for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The team is currently seeking its first continental title since 2010.
