Authorities in Nanjing's Jiangbei New Area have dismissed the principal and deputy principal of a university-affiliated kindergarten following reports of severe sanitary failures. An investigation confirmed that kitchen staff used cooking woks to clean mops and other non-food items, a practice revealed by a former teacher who resigned after her internal complaints were ignored. The scandal emerged after dozens of children suffered from nausea and vomiting on the final day of the spring semester. While the school has replaced its management and kitchen staff, the exact cause of the illnesses remains unconfirmed. Eleven local officials also faced disciplinary action for failing to provide adequate oversight. The whistleblower, who faced pressure from the university to retract her claims, expressed hope that these changes will ensure safer conditions for current and future students.
