A recent study conducted by Seoul National University College of Medicine suggests that frequent social media engagement is associated with increased feelings of loneliness in individuals aged 60 and older. Led by Professor Min Kyoung-bok, the research team examined data from over 34,000 Seoul residents collected during the 2024 Seoul Survey. The findings highlight a statistically significant link between digital social interaction and perceived isolation within this specific demographic. While the study focused on a broad age range of adults, the impact of online habits appears particularly relevant for the elderly population. These results provide new insights into how modern communication tools influence the mental well-being of older citizens in South Korea.
