The Nepalese government has unveiled the Vehicle Management for Government Employees Directive 2083, establishing a loan program to assist civil servants in purchasing personal vehicles. Under this policy, chief secretaries and secretaries are eligible for loans reaching Rs 6 million, while joint secretaries and under-secretaries can access Rs 5 million and Rs 4 million respectively. Lower-ranking staff may receive smaller amounts for two-wheelers. The state will cover all interest costs for these loans, which require repayment over a 20-year period. Participants in this scheme are generally prohibited from utilizing government-provided vehicles, although exceptions exist for specific roles such as chief district officers and chief administrative officers. Furthermore, the directive includes provisions for driver support for eligible officials.
