The Ugandan military has officially terminated its defense partnership with Turkey following persistent disagreements regarding the status of Fred Lumbuye. Lumbuye, a political commentator and vocal critic of President Yoweri Museveni, currently resides in Turkey. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the head of the army and the president's son, has been leading efforts to secure the blogger's extradition, citing charges related to computer misuse, spreading misinformation, and inciting violence. The tension escalated after supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda gathered at the Turkish Embassy in Kampala to protest. In response to the ongoing refusal to hand over the individual, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces announced the immediate cessation of all military collaboration with Ankara.
