Authorities in Kanchanpur have initiated mandatory health screenings at the Gaddachauki border crossing for citizens returning from India for the Dashain and Tihar festivals. This measure aims to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases during a period of high cross-border travel. Health officials are testing arrivals for six specific conditions: COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, dengue, and scrub typhus. Siddharaj Bhatt, a public health officer, stated that the program is intended to detect illnesses early and facilitate immediate medical intervention. Travelers who test positive for any of these infections are referred to local medical facilities, where they receive treatment at no cost. The initiative specifically targets individuals arriving from Indian regions known for high rates of communicable diseases to protect public health within Nepal.
