A fresh literary series dedicated to showcasing contemporary Arab female poets in English is set to debut on September 16 at the Boston Public Library. Titled 'Songs for Fairuz: New Arab Women’s Poetry' and published by Black Ocean, the project aims to release works from ten different authors over the next five years. The inaugural volume, 'I Drag My Sorrow by His Collar' by Iraqi poet Hanaa Ahmad Jabr, features translations by Jennifer Jean and Wadaq Qais. This initiative contributes to a growing body of Arabic literature available to English-speaking audiences, which recently includes diverse works such as Shamma Al Bastaki’s exploration of Dubai Creek communities and Lenna Jawdat’s reflections on the displacement of Palestinian literary collections.
