Iranian director Ebrahim Poshte Kouhi's celebrated theatrical adaptation of Laura Esquivel's novel, "Like Water for Chocolate," is scheduled for performance at the Baghdad International Theater Festival. This event will take place from October 10 to 18. The production, which first premiered in Iran in 2013, has previously garnered multiple accolades, including awards for best actress and stage design. Poshte Kouhi is a familiar figure at the Baghdad festival, having previously secured its Grand Prize for two other works, "Macbeth Zaar" and "Particles of Chaos." His artistic endeavors have also been showcased at various international festivals across Europe. The play itself delves into the story of Tita, whose romantic aspirations are hindered by a family custom. She channels her intense emotions into her culinary creations, which then mysteriously influence those who consume them. The narrative skillfully combines elements of love, familial discord, and magical realism, exploring the tension between individual desires and societal expectations.
