A new reservation system implemented at the Po Pin Chau section of the High Island Geo Trail saw low attendance during its inaugural weekend. Out of 3,230 individuals who secured bookings, only 1,560 visitors arrived at the site. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department introduced this real-name registration process to mitigate ecological harm, manage overcrowding, and enhance hiker safety in the popular Sai Kung area. According to official data, approximately 900 people showed up on Saturday out of 1,800 registrants, while Sunday saw 660 attendees. Authorities are monitoring the trial as they attempt to balance public access with environmental preservation and safety concerns in the country park.
