A historic globe associated with General Dwight Eisenhower was damaged while being moved within the Pentagon. According to reports, the artifact was dropped by untrained staff members dispatched by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office, rather than the professional curators typically tasked with handling such items. The incident resulted in a significant hole near the Antarctic region and caused the sphere to detach from its mounting. The U.S. Army confirmed the mishap occurred on February 3, stating that the object is currently undergoing repairs. A Defense Department official characterized the event as an accident and expressed relief that no personnel were injured. This globe is one of two identical pieces historically linked to the former president and five-star general, who frequently utilized such items during his career and presidency.
