Former Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has observed a notable disparity in how party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy, Mohamad Hasan, address the Islamic party PAS. During the recent Umno general assembly, Mohamad Hasan suggested that holding a snap election in Terengganu would serve as a litmus test for PAS's genuine commitment to reviving its alliance with Umno. Puad interpreted this stance as a cautionary signal regarding the potential restoration of ties. Conversely, Puad noted that Zahid Hamidi adopted a more emotive approach, focusing on the electoral performance of the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional coalition during the Negeri Sembilan polls. These differing perspectives reflect internal deliberations within Umno regarding the future of their political cooperation with PAS.
