The Tamil Nadu Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) has apprehended a Rajasthan resident, Shyabu Khan, for allegedly producing and sharing an artificial intelligence-generated deepfake of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The fraudulent content, which featured Hindi audio, was reportedly used to deceive individuals across several states, including Madhya Pradesh. Following an investigation into social media activity and data from service providers, authorities conducted raids in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, seizing electronic equipment such as mobile phones and CPUs. The suspect faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for impersonation and cheating. Currently, the accused has been transferred to Chennai and placed in judicial custody while investigators probe the possibility of a larger criminal network involved in these AI-driven scams.
