Recent data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics indicates a reduction of over 400,000 students at the secondary level within a single year. The 2025 report highlights that while general secondary schools and vocational training centers are experiencing a decline in attendance, there is a simultaneous rise in enrollment for English-medium schools and madrasahs. Although the official documentation provides comprehensive statistics regarding educational institutions ranging from secondary to higher levels, it stops short of identifying the underlying causes for these shifting enrollment patterns. This trend has prompted concerns among educators and observers regarding the current state and future direction of national educational planning and the overall quality of instruction provided to students across the country.
