Song Xingyu, a self-taught inventor from Hubei province, gained widespread attention after piloting a custom-built electric flying board across the Yangtze River. The device, which utilizes ten brushless motors, was developed in a makeshift laboratory within his family's former woodworking shed. Despite having no formal engineering education, Song utilized AI-assisted design and self-developed flight-monitoring systems to refine the board's stability after initial testing failures. The flight, conducted during the National Day holiday, spanned over 300 meters in the Barenhe scenic area. While some online observers questioned the authenticity of the footage, Song confirmed the flight was genuine and manually operated. His background includes leaving school at 14 to work in his father's timber mill, followed by several business attempts before dedicating himself to his aeronautical projects with the support of his family.
