Tuz Gölü, Turkey's second-largest lake, is currently experiencing a critical water shortage that jeopardizes its ecological stability, salt harvesting operations, and tourism industry. Located in central Anatolia, this hypersaline environment serves as a crucial habitat for flamingo populations. However, the combination of insufficient rainfall and intensive groundwater extraction for farming has caused water levels to drop significantly, with depths now reaching only 50 centimeters. The environmental degradation has already resulted in mass mortality events among young flamingos in recent years. As one of the nation's most water-stressed areas, the region faces an uncertain future as the receding waters threaten both the local wildlife and the economic activities dependent on the lake's preservation.
