Qatar Museums chairperson Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani recently emphasized the capacity of cultural institutions to maintain communication channels during periods of political tension. Speaking at a 'QC Talks' event held at the Museum of Islamic Art, she argued that while cultural diplomacy is not a substitute for formal political negotiations, it serves as a vital mechanism for fostering trust and sustaining global relationships when official channels are obstructed. Joined by Institut du monde arabe president Anne-Claire Legendre and moderator Dr. Safwan Masri, Sheikha Al Mayassa noted that cultural engagement often begins with curiosity, providing a unique space for connection. By prioritizing shared human experiences, these institutions help preserve international ties and build credibility across borders, even when geopolitical circumstances make traditional diplomacy challenging.
