Singapore experienced a decline in air quality as the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) climbed into the unhealthy category across multiple regions. On September 5, the central area registered a PSI of 103 by early evening. Earlier that day, both the western and eastern parts of the island also recorded readings exceeding the 100-point threshold, marking the first time such levels have been reached since October 2023. The National Environment Agency has been issuing regular haze advisories as the city-state grapples with smoke originating from fires in Indonesia. While conditions in the west and east showed some improvement by the evening, the persistent presence of haze remains a concern for local authorities monitoring the atmospheric situation.
