Yoo Ji-won, a 25-year-old graduate student at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, died following a medical emergency at the 2026 Seoul Race. The AI semiconductor researcher and social media influencer collapsed at the 20.6-kilometre point of the half-marathon, just 500 metres before reaching the finish line. Event organisers reported that emergency responders provided immediate assistance on-site before transporting her to a hospital via ambulance. Despite these efforts, she was later pronounced dead. While the Seoul Race Organising Committee has acknowledged the fatality, medical officials have yet to determine the specific cause of her passing.
