Legislators in South Korea are expressing concern regarding the adequacy of workplace safety measures for the nation's expanding migrant workforce. Data presented by Representative Kim Wi-sang of the People Power Party indicates a concerning upward trend in reported physical abuse cases. Between January and July of this year, the Ministry of Employment and Labor documented 35 incidents of violence, a figure that has already surpassed the total of 34 cases recorded throughout the entirety of 2025. While reports had previously fluctuated, dropping from 40 in 2021 to 18 in 2024 before climbing again, the current statistics suggest that labor inspections and protective oversight are failing to keep pace with the increasing number of foreign employees in the country.
