The Political Council of Tamil-Speaking Peoples has formally requested that the Sri Lankan government re-evaluate current uniform policies for Health Assistants. In a letter to the Minister of Health, Convenor and Opposition MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam highlighted the need to balance professional clinical standards and patient safety with cultural, religious, and modesty considerations. This appeal aligns with recent guidance provided by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka. The Council advocates for a policy adjustment that respects individual preferences while ensuring that hospital hygiene and operational requirements remain uncompromised. The group is urging authorities to initiate a review process to amend the existing regulations to better reflect these diverse sensitivities.
