Tashkent and Samarkand have officially joined the Food and Agriculture Organization's Green Cities Network, following the receipt of membership certificates from the FAO headquarters in Rome. This global initiative focuses on fostering sustainable urban development by emphasizing urban forestry, agriculture, and bioeconomy strategies. By participating in this network, both Uzbek cities gain access to technical expertise, international collaboration platforms, and resources aimed at improving environmental resilience and public well-being. The program, which began in 2020, intends to support 1,000 cities globally by 2030. As an initial phase of their involvement, the FAO will assist Tashkent and Samarkand in conducting self-assessments to determine specific urban priorities and tailor future technical support. This partnership aligns with the Green City Principles and aims to enhance the international standing of these cities in promoting sustainable urban solutions.
