A large crowd assembled outside the Portuguese parliament in Lisbon this Tuesday to voice opposition against a recent police operation. Authorities had dismantled housing rights encampments during the early hours of Sunday, sparking significant public backlash. The protest coincided with the start of legislative debates regarding the 2027 national budget. In anticipation of potential unrest, municipal officials requested that local businesses in the vicinity shut their doors for the afternoon, a measure with which most proprietors complied. The Acampada de Lisboa movement, which participated in the demonstration, has advocated for the formation of a popular assembly directly in front of the parliament building to address the ongoing housing crisis.
