A judicial authority in Turkey has remanded two deputy mayors and five additional individuals to custody as part of an ongoing corruption inquiry involving the Etimesgut municipality in Ankara. The officials, identified as Gültekin Bayındır and Fikret Gözüoğlu, are among those detained following a series of police operations conducted across five provinces on October 13. In total, 25 suspects were initially apprehended, including several municipal staff members. Prosecutors allege that the local administration, currently led by the Republican People’s Party, was involved in illicit activities such as bribery, embezzlement, and extortion. The investigation focuses on irregularities regarding construction permits, zoning approvals, parking lot leasing, and the falsification of official documentation. While seven individuals remain jailed pending trial, four other suspects have been placed under house arrest as legal proceedings continue.
