This initiative is part of a broader peace effort intended to conclude years of armed conflict in Turkey. Following a legislative move in August that provided partial amnesty for militants, four distinct subcommittees were formed to manage the practical transition toward peace. While the current legal framework remains silent on the future status of the 77-year-old leader, who has been incarcerated on İmralı Island for 27 years, his inclusion in the disarmament panel represents a significant development in the ongoing reconciliation process.
