Hazardous air quality levels are currently affecting Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, and several neighboring districts, even prior to the traditional smog season. Data indicates that Lahore has reached a dangerous Air Quality Index (AQI) of 228, while Rawalpindi reports figures as high as 163 near industrial zones. Other areas, including Attock, Jhelum, Talagang, and Murree, are also experiencing elevated pollution levels exceeding safe thresholds. Local authorities, specifically the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, have been unable to effectively mitigate the worsening atmospheric conditions. Health experts are expressing concern regarding the potential surge in respiratory ailments as the air quality continues to deteriorate across the region.
