The European Union has formally requested that Houthi rebels terminate their ongoing blockade of Taiz, a city in south-western Yemen currently held by government forces. This appeal follows a formal communication from the Yemeni government to the United Nations, highlighting a severe decline in living conditions and the looming threat of a humanitarian crisis. As the primary front line in the nation's civil war, Taiz has faced increased military pressure and encirclement by rebel fighters in recent weeks. The European Union emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safe passage of vital supplies, including food, fuel, medicine, and water, into the area. Furthermore, the bloc stressed the importance of safeguarding civilian infrastructure and facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations to prevent further suffering among the local population.
