The 2026-27 camel racing season officially commenced yesterday at the Al Shahaniya track. This initial local competition is scheduled to continue until September 18, encompassing a series of 12 morning sessions. The opening day consisted of 24 rounds covering a distance of 2km, specifically within the Open Haqayeq category reserved for sheikhs. The program included 13 races for female camels and 11 for males. Notable performances included Dajjah, owned by HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, who secured victory in the primary female round with a time of 2:52.41. Meanwhile, Al Fasil, belonging to HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Saud al-Thani, won the main male round in 2:55.20. The fastest time of the day was recorded by Shaheen, owned by HE Sheikh Saud bin Faisal bin Muhammad al-Thani, finishing in 2:51.39.
