The Allahabad High Court has issued a stay on a criminal complaint filed against reporter Amit Yadav. Yadav had previously published a report highlighting the inadequate facilities at a government-run educational institution in Lucknow. During the proceedings, the bench comprising Justices Abdul Moin and Pramod Kumar Srivastava characterized the state government's decision to file the First Information Report as a retaliatory measure, describing it as an attempt to silence the messenger. The court emphasized that under the Right to Education Act of 2009, the administration is mandated to maintain specific standards in schools. Instead of pursuing legal action against the journalist, the authorities should have focused on resolving the infrastructure deficiencies identified in his report. The court concluded that the state's reaction appeared to be driven by ego rather than a commitment to public accountability.
