Waymo, the autonomous vehicle division of Alphabet Inc., has officially announced its intention to introduce self-driving ride-hailing services in Singapore by 2028. This move represents the company's inaugural expansion into the Southeast Asian market. The project is being developed in collaboration with Singapore's Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority. During a recent event attended by Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow, officials highlighted that this initiative aims to integrate advanced autonomous technology into the local transportation landscape. The government expects this partnership to broaden mobility choices for the public while fostering the development of new technical capabilities within the nation's transport ecosystem. Waymo previously pioneered commercial robotaxi operations in the United States starting in 2020 and intends to leverage its operational experience for this upcoming deployment in Singapore.
