The Calcutta High Court has indicated it might issue a directive requiring judicial authorization before any further First Information Reports (FIRs) are filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee. This statement followed arguments from Banerjee’s legal team, who claimed that numerous criminal complaints continue to be lodged against the Member of Parliament despite him having received interim protection from the judiciary. The current legal proceedings involve allegations of irregularities, including medical negligence and the distribution of expired pharmaceuticals, at Sebaashray healthcare camps established in early 2025. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya voiced dissatisfaction with the ongoing litigation, suggesting that the court might intervene to prevent the filing of additional cases without specific permission. The bench noted the persistent nature of these complaints while hearing Banerjee's petition to challenge the existing criminal cases related to his healthcare initiative in West Bengal.
