Ahead of the high-profile football match between Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, Turkish law enforcement conducted a major operation targeting unauthorized gambling activities. According to Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office directed the provincial gendarmerie’s cybercrime unit to dismantle networks facilitating illegal wagers. The investigation resulted in the seizure of 1,200 bank accounts linked to over 1,000 individuals and entities suspected of processing illicit bets and laundering money. Furthermore, authorities successfully obtained court orders to block access to approximately 98,000 websites associated with these illegal operations. Officials identified 345 specific betting platforms and 110 distinct payment methods used to bypass legal regulations. This initiative aims to disrupt financial flows to unregulated gambling sites during a period of heightened betting activity surrounding the İstanbul derby.
