Dr. Rody Sy, a cardiologist at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, informed the Sandiganbayan that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez requires four to six weeks of continued care before he can be safely moved to a different facility. During a court hearing, Dr. Sy emphasized that transferring the patient currently would be inappropriate and could disrupt his medical treatment. Romualdez was admitted to the private hospital for chest pain on the same day an arrest warrant was issued against him regarding plunder allegations involving P7.44 billion in kickbacks. The physician noted that the stress from the legal developments likely contributed to the patient's cardiac symptoms. Romualdez, who also manages conditions including hypertension and diabetes, remains under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology while his hospital stay continues.
