The correctional facilities in Bangladesh are currently grappling with a significant healthcare crisis due to extreme overcrowding. With a total prison population reaching approximately 100,000 individuals, the available medical resources are proving to be entirely insufficient to meet basic needs. Official reports indicate that there are only ten doctors assigned to provide care for this massive number of inmates. Furthermore, the availability of emergency transport is severely limited, with only 23 ambulances operational across the entire prison network. This scarcity of medical personnel and essential emergency equipment places an immense strain on the country's penal healthcare system, raising concerns regarding the ability to provide adequate treatment and timely responses to health emergencies within these institutions.
